The world, and our lives, are ruled by Universal laws, whether we acknowledge them or not. One of the most important things that we can do to align our lives with the truth is changing beliefs that we cling to that are not in our own best interest.
Here's what I mean; so many people profess one thing about the way they live, yet the walk never matches the talk. It's an easy pattern to fall into, but one that proves to be limiting and ultimately causes failure and catastrophe.
If you profess to living a life filled with “light and truth” and that you “love everyone and have nothing but positive intentions for mankind”, yet your true thoughts and actions don't reflect these statements, you have set yourself up to be at odds with yourself. It can happen to us all, and we must be vigilant to avoid these circumstances
A House Divided…
The ancient scriptures from every religion, philosophy and school of thought are filled with references to how a self-conflicting walk can ruin our lives and prevent success from ever being obtained.
One of the most popular pieces of proverbial wisdom regarding this theme comes from the mouth of Jesus. He said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” And there are literally hundreds of other examples from sages and wise people over the centuries.
It is clear that we cannot afford to be hypocritical in our words, thoughts or actions if we hope to harmonize with the Truth and attract success into our lives. The Universal Truth is such that contradictions cannot exist in the same entity without unrest, friction and trouble. If you want to live the life that you should be living, changing beliefs is essential
Self Inventory
Here's where things get tough. Up until now, we've been talking about hypocrisy and double-mindedness from a distanced perspective. There comes a time, though, when you must take an honest assessment of your own thoughts.
Are you harboring conflicting thoughts?
Do you find yourself telling others how much you love them, yet in your heart you are jealous of their success?
These types of scenarios must be eliminated in order for you to be a being of integrity, who attracts success and walks the path of truth. It's hard. No one wants to look in those corners of the mind that are generating jealousy, discord and hate. But you must locate the enemy before you can confront the enemy, so a self-assessment is necessary.
A Modern Perspective
Modern psychology calls the condition we have been discussing Cognitive Dissonance. You can call it what you want, but the bottom line is that it needs to be identified and addressed if you hope to live a peaceful, positive life. The effects of living in cognitive dissonance is confusion, stress, depression and hate. It leads to blaming others for your problems, justifying yourself at all costs and generally living a life where you are at odds with your true self.
Changing beliefs about ourselves, our fellow human beings and the world we live in is the only cure to living in a constant state of cognitive dissonance. All of us have to think about the way we are thinking. When blame or jealousy are being cloaked with words of love and peace, then you are at odds with yourself and the Truth. Capitalize on these moments and work on changing your beliefs to align with the truth. Then, and only then, will you be free to live the dynamic, powerful, authentic life that you were meant to live.
